Community Guidelines
Effective Date: 18/08/2026
Trips Together is for planning real trips with people you are actually going away with. Trip chat, photos, polls and expenses are shared with the other members of that trip, and these guidelines set out what is and is not allowed. They apply to everything you post, and they form part of our Terms of Use.
If you see something that breaks these guidelines, report it in the app. Every report is read by a person.
What is not allowed
Do not post, send or share any of the following anywhere in the app, including in messages, photo captions, poll questions and options, expense descriptions, and your own display name, username and bio:
- Harassment and bullying — targeting, intimidating, threatening or repeatedly contacting someone who does not want to hear from you.
- Hate speech — attacking or demeaning people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Sexual content — pornography and sexually explicit material. Any sexual content involving a minor results in immediate removal and a permanent ban, and we co-operate fully with law enforcement.
- Violence — threats of violence, incitement, and graphic or gratuitous violent material.
- Spam — bulk or repetitive messaging, scams, phishing, and unsolicited advertising.
- Impersonation — pretending to be another person, or misrepresenting your identity to gain access to a trip.
- Illegal content and activity — anything unlawful under the laws of England and Wales, and content that infringes someone else’s rights.
- Other people’s private information — sharing someone’s personal details without their permission.
We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that break these guidelines.
Automated checks
Some content is checked automatically as you post it. Messages, photo captions, poll questions and options, expense descriptions, and profile names and bios are screened against a filter: the most serious material is refused outright and never posted, and other matches are published but flagged for a moderator to look at. These checks are a first pass, not a substitute for reporting — automated filters miss things, and a report from a member is the signal we act on.
How to report something
In the app:
- A message, photo, poll or expense — press and hold it in the trip chat, then choose Report. You can also report a photo from the full-screen photo view.
- A person — open their profile and choose Report this person.
You will be asked to pick a reason — spam, harassment, hate speech, sexual content, violence, or something else — and you can add a note. Your report is private: the person you report is not told who reported them, or that a report was made.
If you cannot reach the in-app flow, or you need to reach us about content for any other reason, email safety@tripstogether.co.uk.
Blocking someone
Reporting and blocking are separate, and you can do either or both. Blocking is immediate, does not need our involvement, and the person you block is not told.
Block someone by pressing and holding one of their messages, or from their profile. You can see and undo your blocks in Settings → Blocked users. When you block someone:
- Their messages, reactions and poll votes stop appearing for you in trip chats.
- You stop receiving notifications from them.
- Neither of you can find the other in search, follow the other, or invite the other to a trip.
- Any follows between you are removed, and unblocking does not restore them.
Blocking applies to you only. It does not remove the person from a trip, and other members still see their messages — so if something breaks these guidelines, report it as well as blocking.
What happens after a report
A moderator reviews every report, working through them oldest first. We action every report within 24 hours of receiving it. A moderator sees the reported content and the surrounding context, decides whether it breaks these guidelines, and records what they did.
A moderator can:
- Remove the content. A removed message is replaced with a note saying it was removed. This cannot be undone.
- Suspend the account. A suspended person cannot post in any trip chat for a set period, typically seven days. They can still see their trips.
- Ban the account. The same restriction, with no end date.
- Dismiss the report if the content does not break these guidelines.
We act on every report. We may not be able to tell you what was decided, because the outcome concerns someone else’s account.
We keep a record of every report and every moderation decision, including a copy of the reported content, so that a decision can be reviewed or appealed after the original content has gone. Our Privacy Policy explains how long we keep this and who can see it.
How to appeal
If your content was removed, or your account was suspended or banned, and you think we got it wrong, email safety@tripstogether.co.uk, from the address on your account where you can, and tell us your username either way. Tell us what was removed or restricted and why you think the decision was wrong. A moderator will review the original decision and the record behind it, and will lift the restriction if it should not have been applied.
